Welcome to the World Congress of ICCEES in Stockholm 2010!
The theme of the Congress is: «Eurasia: Prospects for Wider Cooperation». Michail Gorbachev has accepted to give the keynote speach at the opening session of the congress. The academic hosts are Stockholm University, Sodertorn University College and Stockholm School of Economics. The Congress will be held at Stockholm City Conference Centre located in the very centre of the City. The local organiser of the Congress is the Sallskapet for studier av Ryssland, Central- och Osteuropa samt Centralasien (The Swedish Society for the Study of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia). You are invited to attend the Congress, participate in its panels and roundtables and enjoy the abundant cultural program on offer in the city of Stockholm.
International Council for Central and East European Studies
ICCEES (International Council for Central and East European Studies) is a global network of research associations, institutes and individual scholars active in the field of Russian, Central and East European studies. ICCEES was founded in 1974, initially as a joint project of American, British and Canadian research associations. Its main activities include publishing twice a year an ICCEES International Newsletter and organising every fifth year a World Congress.
The previous World Congresses have been organised in Banff, Canada (1974), Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany (1980), Washington, D.C., USA (1985), Harrogate, United Kingdom (1990), Warsaw, Poland (1995),Tampere, Finland (2000) and Berlin, Germany (2005). The Eighth World Congress will take place in Stockholm, Sweden in 2010. From October 2005, the ICCEES International Information Centre has been located in Germany. The VII World Congress was held in Berlin, Germany from 25 to 30 July 2005 at the Humboldt-Universität. There were 1,792 registered participants from 49 countries.
Alexander Alexandrovich Zinoviev (1922 — 2006 ) — prominent Russian thinker, philosopher, logician and sociologist, honorary citizen of European cities of Ravenna, Avignon, Orange and Kostroma, full member of academies of sciences, laureate of international scientific and literary awards. Alexander Zinoviev is buried in the Novodevitchi National cemetery in Moscow. After the publication in 1978 in the West of the sociological novel « The Yawning Heights » he was expelled from the USSR to Germany. Alexander Zinoviev authored over 60 books, published in over 3 million copies in 26 languages. To this day no official excuses by the Russian State were presented to Alexander Zinoviev or his family after his comeback from forced emigration in 1999.
